Redshift EP

DNN

A 3 track broken beat ep (10m 23s) — released June 30th 2014 on Mnemonic Dojo

Milan DJ and producer DNN has spent the last few years working hard to bring new music to his hometown, often choosing to go against the grain of the tried and tested: something rarely done on the trend-obsessed, risk averse Milanese scene. Thanks to that labour of love, he has become known locally and internationally in the industry for having cultivated a formidably growing niche with his grassroots collective Well Founded and its partners, which introduced new sounds and artists to the Italian fashion capital. The musical research and approach that informs the programming of Well Founded nights is reflected in DNN's work: after cutting his teeth on the DnB scene about a decade ago, the 27 year old has become the kind of DJ for whom genre preoccupations take a back seat, while quality, vibes and dancefloor mastery take centre stage.

DNN's debut EP on Mnemonic Dojo - Redshift EP - is the result of a year's painstaking stylistic chiselling by the 27 year old DJ, and his first production effort under this moniker. DNN delivers three solid tracks deploying elements of jungle, techno and dub, combined in a tasteful and subtle way, mixed by label founder Gadi Sassoon (Memory9) and mastered by Matt Colton at Alchemy in London. Eclipse Dub opens the EP in half time jungle fashion, setting the dark and deep tone of the record. The unsettlingly imaginative Clashh follows, with jungle breaks cut up against odd metered beats driven by a creeping arpeggio. The EP closes with Control, a dancefloor slaying number combining elements of footwork and techno with a continuing dub overtone.
