The Abyss Within

A 5 track leftfield/idm ep (23m 48s) — released January 1st 1970 on Mnemonic Dojo

Described by XLR8R as "exceptionally high end [...] a confident slice of futuristic beat work" and by Vice's Noisey as "perfect for sound-tracking a dystopian future", Memory9's 'The Abyss Within EP' is now available on 12 inch vinyl from Mnemonic Dojo. On Side A is the title track 'The Abyss Within', a dark and bassy 90 bpm piece which pays tribute to the soundtracks of classic horror and sci-fi films, with cinematic harmonies and intricate layers of foley sounds woven into the beats. It's backed up with remixes from Om Unit, providing his signature blend of dubbed out textures with dancefloor-slaying certainty, and H-SIK, who switches up the vibe in a half-time jungle/idm flail. Side B contains two more originals: 'Escape the Ice' with gentle Rhodes woven through a frenzied 160 bpm juke riddim, classic snare rollers reminiscent of old school jungle and the unique touch of a prepared piano used as percussion; and 'Two Bodies of Venus', a 174 bpm exploration of modal harmony and melody, hypnotic synth lines, arpeggios and intricate 808 percussion rushes.
